What is a Conveyor Mobile Robot?

A Conveyor Mobile Robot (CMR) carries a miniature belt or roller conveyor on its back. When it docks to a fixed conveyor infeed or outfeed, the onboard conveyor aligns flush with the fixed line and transfers totes or cartons across — just like a fixed transfer station, but on wheels.

This solves a fundamental problem with fixed conveyor systems: changing the routing between two points requires physical conveyor modifications. With a CMR fleet, you change routing in software — the robots simply travel new paths and dock to different conveyor ports. A new "lane" is live in minutes.

CMRs are especially powerful in sortation: instead of a fixed crossbelt sorter, a fleet of CMRs performs the same sorting function dynamically — with any-to-any routing, variable throughput, and zero single-point-of-failure risk from a sorter breakdown.

Working Principle

1
Dock to Source ConveyorCMR approaches conveyor outfeed port. Laser docking sensor aligns onboard belt to ±5 มม with fixed conveyor height and lateral position.
2
Tote Transfer InOnboard belt activates, tote slides from fixed conveyor onto CMR. Barcode scanner on CMR reads tote ID and confirms to FMS/WMS which destination to route to.
3
Autonomous TravelCMR navigates to destination conveyor port via FMS-optimised path, carrying tote securely on raised conveyor deck with edge guards.
4
Tote Transfer Out & ReturnCMR docks to destination port, transfers tote onto fixed conveyor, confirms to WMS, and returns to source or next task.

คุณสมบัติที่สำคัญ

🔄

Any-to-Any Routing

One CMR can serve any combination of conveyor ports on its map. Add a new port — the robot serves it in the same shift with no hardware change.

🎯

±5 มม Docking Precision

Laser docking guide achieves ±5 มม alignment at conveyor ports — tote transfer is smooth and gap-free without mechanical guides on the fixed conveyor side.

📦

Multi-Tote Deck Option

Extended deck variant carries up to 3 totes per trip, improving throughput on long travel distances where single-tote transfers would be inefficient.

🛡️

No Single Point of Failure

A fixed sorter breakdown stops all sortation. With CMRs, any individual robot failure is absorbed by the fleet — FMS re-assigns its tasks to peers in under 30 seconds.

📊

Real-Time Throughput Scaling

Add robots to increase throughput instantly — no mechanical changes. Scale back during off-peak by parking robots at chargers and re-routing tasks to fewer units.

🔗

WMS Tote-Level Tracking

Onboard barcode scanner reads every tote as it loads. WMS receives real-time location — exact tote position is always known regardless of which robot is carrying it.

คำถามที่พบบ่อย

Minimal modification is needed. A passive dock plate is bolted to the infeed or outfeed end of each existing conveyor section — no power connection to the dock plate is required. The CMR brings its own belt and power. The dock plate installation typically takes 1–2 hours per port and does not require conveyor system downtime beyond the installation window.
Throughput depends primarily on travel distance between ports and fleet size. A 10-robot fleet on 20 m average port-to-port routes achieves ~600 totes/h. At 10 m average distance, the same fleet reaches ~900 totes/h. Econocontrol provides a route simulation tool with your floor plan and port map before purchase to give a precise throughput forecast.
Yes. The Econocontrol FMS manages mixed fleets — CMRs, แชสซี AMRs, and LMRs can share the same floor map with unified traffic management. CMR docking zones are reserved in the map so other robots do not block port approaches. Cross-type task prioritisation ensures the highest-urgency moves are served first regardless of robot type.
